Used Audi RS5 FAQs

  • Is the Audi RS5 an exciting ride?

The Audi RS5 is as fast as its closest rivals, including the Mercedes C63 S and BMW M4. Still, the RS5 is surprisingly quiet, which is a good thing for those who like to remain discrete while cruising the roads. It also has an excellent grip on the tarmac, allowing you to take sharp bends at higher speeds. However, because it's too refined, it's sometimes less exciting to ride in certain conditions.

  • How do the different driving modes work on the Audi RS5?

If you go for an Audi RS5 with adaptive suspension, you get 3 driving modes: Comfort, Auto and Dynamic. The Comfort driving mode is suitable for bumpy roads as it better dampens bumps, while the Auto driving mode is suitable for when you need to maintain a great grip on the tarmac. The Dynamic driving mode reduces the RS5's body roll by stiffening the suspension, but as a result, you'll more easily feel road imperfections inside the car.

  • Is the Audi RS5 suited for long-distance cruising?

Like other vehicles in its class, taller passengers won't find the rear too enjoyable. While the ride is still relatively comfy and quiet for quick trips, it lacks the rear leg and headroom needed to make the RS5 ideal for long-distance cruising. Unfortunately, this design style seems to cut across the entire class of compact performance cars, as even the Mercedes and BMW rivals have the same cramped rears. For front-seat riders, the sports seats are spacious and comfortable enough for longer journeys. However, the large sports seats in the rear mean back-seat passengers (over 5'9") will need to compromise a bit of wiggle room for a snug, comfy fit.

  • How much luggage space is available on the Audi RS5?

The RS5 has a 460-litre boot space, which is more than most of its closest rivals. The RS5 has a wide loading area that's easy to open, making it easier to load or unload suitcases and other cargo. The rear seats are versatile, folding with a split ratio of 40:20:40. When they're completely down, you can open up an extra 480 litres of precious cargo room.

  • Is the Audi RS5 a safe ride?

The Euro NCAP has never crash-tested the RS5, but it did test the Audi A5, which is very similar to the RS5. The A5 earned the maximum 5-star safety rating in the NCAP crash-test scores. Some of the great safety features on the RS5 include a multi-stage electronic stability control system, autonomous braking, Isofix child-seat mountings and several driver-assist tech features.

About the Audi RS5

Whereas BMW has its M badge, and Mercedes the AMG, Audi gave the RS badge to their range of specially enhanced high-performance cars. The RS5 is the flagship model in the Audi RS range. The 2-door sports coupe shares the same platform as the Audi A4, and it offers room to sufficiently seat up to 4 people. It has unique frameless windows that ease access into the coupe's exclusive cabin. The RS5 has the same high-performance engine as the RS4, which implies a 2.9-litre TFSI twin-turbo V6 engine under the bonnet, producing a massive 444 bhp. You also get Audi's ubiquitous Quattro 4-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The resulting madness is a speedy RS sports coupe that goes from 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and reaches an electronically-limited maximum speed of 155 mph.

What should you expect to find in an Audi RS5?

Like most high-performance cars, you can't choose different trims with the RS5. Still, you can get options through various model generations and special limited-production editions. Besides the standard RS5, you can get special editions badged as the RS5 Carbon Black and RS5 Vorsprung. The list of standard equipment across the range is impressive, comprising:

  • 19-inch forged alloy wheels
  • Automatic cruise control
  • DAB radio with Bluetooth connectivity
  • DAB radio
  • LED headlights
  • Nappa leather sports seats
  • Satellite navigation and 3-zone climate control
  • LED headlights

Audi offers several upgrade packages to improve the performance, look and comfort of the RS5. One of the packages is the Sports package, which extends the top speed of the already-fast car up to 174 mph. If you opt for the Carbon Black edition, you get wing mirrors and a black carbon fibre roof. The flagship RS5 is the Vorsprung, which offers:

  • 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Dynamic ride control
  • A glossy black styling package
  • Improved sports suspension

A noteworthy feature of the RS5 is its infotainment system. Regardless of the variant, you get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as a standard, an Multi Media Interface (MMI) controller and Audis Virtual Cockpit with a 10.1-inch display. As Audis MMI system adds a laptop-like touchpad on top of normal touchscreen functionality, the system is less distracting when browsing through your phones apps or contacts compared to the typical touchscreen display. The MMI system comes with a built-in sat-nav system, with local traffic info and free software updates throughout the cars life. In addition, the RS5 packs in a DVD player and a free 10GB HD storage drive for media files.
